Pick a Disaster
Hailstorm
A severe hailstorm hammers your neighborhood. Golf-ball-sized hail pounds your roof and dents your car.
Colorado averages over $1 billion in hail damage annually. A wind/hail deductible buydown can lower your out-of-pocket even further.
Fender-Bender
You rear-end someone at a stoplight. Their bumper is crushed. They also claim whiplash.
Colorado minimum liability limits are often not enough. A serious accident can exceed $100,000 in claims. Consider higher limits or an umbrella policy.
Burst Pipe
A pipe bursts in your wall during a cold snap. Water soaks two rooms before you find it.
Sudden and accidental water damage is covered. Slow leaks from deferred maintenance are not. Know the difference.
Wildfire
A wildfire spreads to your neighborhood. Your home sustains major smoke and fire damage.
In wildfire-prone areas, make sure your dwelling limit reflects current rebuild costs โ not your home's market value. They're very different numbers.
Tornado
A tornado touches down nearby and tears off part of your roof. Your fence and shed are destroyed.
Other structures coverage (fences, sheds, detached garages) is typically 10% of your dwelling limit. Make sure it's enough.
Flash Flood
Heavy rain causes flash flooding. Two feet of water enters your ground floor.
Standard homeowners does NOT cover flood. Flood insurance must be purchased separately. Average NFIP premium in Colorado is around $700/year.
