What a licensed agent actually looks for
Most people have never had a second set of eyes on their policy. Here's what we check — and what we commonly find.
Dwelling limit too low
Rebuild costs have risen sharply. Many homes are insured for 60–70% of what it would actually cost to rebuild them today.
No water backup coverage
Standard homeowners policies exclude sewer and drain backup. It's one of the most common claims — and one of the cheapest add-ons.
High wind/hail deductible
In Colorado, Arizona, and Minnesota, wind/hail deductibles are often 1–2% of your home's value. That's $5,000–$15,000 out of pocket before insurance pays a cent.
Liability limits too low
A $100,000 liability limit sounds like a lot until you're in a serious auto accident or someone is injured on your property. We look at whether your limits match your actual exposure.
No umbrella policy
An umbrella policy adds $1–5M of liability coverage for roughly $200–$400/year. Most people who need one don't have one.
Unbundled home and auto
Bundling home and auto with the same carrier typically saves 10–25%. If yours are split, there's likely money on the table.
Uninsured motorist gaps
In many states, 1 in 8 drivers is uninsured. We check whether your UM/UIM limits actually protect you if one of them hits you.
Outdated beneficiaries
Divorce, remarriage, new children — life changes faster than most people update their beneficiary designations. We flag this every time.
Coverage amount hasn't kept pace
A policy bought 10 years ago may have made sense then. Income, mortgage, and dependents change. We check whether the math still works.
No cyber or EPLI coverage
Most small business BOPs don't include cyber liability or employment practices coverage. Both are increasingly common claims.
Personal auto used for business
If you or an employee drives a personal vehicle for business purposes, a standard personal auto policy may not cover a claim.
Paying more than market rate
Carriers re-price risk constantly. If you haven't shopped in 2+ years, there's a reasonable chance a comparable policy costs less elsewhere.
