Most insurance policies don't automatically follow you across state lines. When you PCS, your home policy may lapse, your auto rates will change, and your renters coverage at the new duty station needs to be in place before you move in — not after. We know the timeline and we know the gaps.
The PCS insurance timeline
Call us as soon as orders are cut. We'll map out what changes, what stays, and what needs to be in place before you move.
Bind renters or homeowners coverage at the new duty station. Confirm your auto policy covers the new state and update your address.
Your belongings in a government move are covered by the government — but only up to their depreciated value. A separate policy covers replacement cost.
Notify your carrier of your new address within 30 days. Some states require a new policy, not just an endorsement.
Coverage gaps we see most often
The lapse window
Families cancel their old policy before the new one is bound. Even 24 hours without coverage can cost you the continuous-coverage discount for years.
State rule changes
Moving from Colorado to Virginia can change your auto rate by 30% or more. Some carriers don't write in every state — we find one that does.
Stored vehicles and property
A car in storage at the old duty station or a POV shipped overseas needs specific coverage. Standard policies often exclude it.
BAH and rental coverage
If you're renting on BAH, your landlord's policy covers the building — not your belongings. Renters insurance is cheap and critical.
SCRA protections we help you use
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act caps interest rates and provides some lease protections, but it doesn't automatically lower your insurance premium. We know which carriers offer military discounts on top of SCRA protections and how to stack them.
